Notice Regarding Changes in the 2007 California Building Standards Code

The City of Sacramento is responsible for enforcing certain parts of the California Building Standards Code (California Code of Regulations, Title 24) including the California Building Code, California Mechanical Code, California Plumbing Code, California Electrical Code and California Fire Code.

On January 1, 2008, the current version of the California Building Code, dated 2001, will be replaced by the 2007 California Building Code. All plan review applications or applications for permit submitted after December 31, 2007 will be required to comply with the applicable parts of the 2007 California Building Code.

For all subdivision projects filed prior to December 31, 2007 with approved tentative maps, entitlements, planning applications, master plans, and applications for building permits for designated lots within the subdivision, including payment of all applicable fees, the 2001 California Building Code will be applicable for one year, until December 31, 2008, for each separate lot that complies with the above requirements.

The 2007 California Building Code differs from the 2001 California Building Standards Code in numerous respects, and we encourage you to take advantage of trainings being offered by numerous organizations. Training classes regarding the 2007 California Building Code are available through the California Building Officials (www.CALBO.org), Sacramento Valley Association of Building Officials (www.svabo.org) and the International Code Council (www.iccsafe.org).

If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact:
