About the project
The City of Sacramento has started construction of the first phase of the K Street Streetscape project. The key objectives are to: aesthetically improve the corridor, increase safety, enhance pedestrian lighting, build connectivity, improve pedestrian mobility, and create a safe and inviting public space. The project will include new and consistent paving materials, street furniture, trash receptacles, landscaping, lighting, enhanced intersection treatments and gateway elements.
Phase one will occur on the 700 block of K Street, St. Rose of Lima Park, and the east side of 7th street between K and L streets. The project comprises three key updates, including:
Streetscape enhancements
The 700 block will include new and improved design treatments, including consistent paving materials, street furniture, trash receptacles, landscaping, and lighting.
In ground water feature at the park
St. Rose of Lima Park's turf will be replaced with hardscape paving and will feature an interactive water element.
Regional Transit (RT) platform station relocation
The existing St. Rose of Lima Park light rail station located on 7th and K streets will be relocated to the east side of 7th Street, stretching from just south of the K-L alley to just north of K Street. The station will include a new shelter, lighting and street furniture. The added benefit of this move is to create an urban plaza on 7th Street, while serving the Gold Line trains traveling from the Sacramento Valley Station to Historic Folsom, as well as the Blue Line trains traveling from Watt/I-80 to Meadowview. This relocation project will increase accessibility to and from the K Street Mall and the Downtown Plaza.
