GUIDELINES FOR DEFINING ADOPTABILITY

Guidelines for Defining Adoptability were developed by the Department of General Services, Animal Care Services Division. An Animal Care Services employee team, utilizing resources from a number of animal welfare resources as well as input from shelter staff, developed the guidelines for use at the shelter.

The intent of these guidelines is to provide consistent information on issues of importance related to animal intake, health, adoptability, behavior, rescue, and euthanasia. The Defining Adoptability Team was chartered with the following purpose:
"To develop a definition of adoptability for Animal Care Services that can be shared with animal shelters such as the Sacramento SPCA and County of Sacramento."

Draft copies are listed below. The copy indicating "RED and SECTIONS" shows proposed revisions and the "FINAL DRAFT" shows final draft text.
