Lost or Found PetTo view our shelter's lost pets, please click on the links below: Shelter Hours
Have you lost your pet?The shelter will hold onto a stray animal for a minimum of 72 hours (i.e. not counting the days that we are closed) for a possible owner to claim his/her lost pet. However, an animal may be euthanised immediately if the animal is suffering from an illness or injury. After the holding period has ended, an animal may be evaluated and placed for adoption. Photos on our website may not do justice to your animal, and the description that we have provided for an animal may not match your own. For those reasons, only use this website as ONE tool in searching for your lost pet. Make sure to come to our shelter, look through the kennels, and visit our front counter where we have additional community resources to help you find your lost pet. In the meantime, continue to check the lost-dog pictures as we update it every hour on the hour. Keep in mind that lost animals may travel away from your home before being brought to a shelter by an animal control officer or a citizen. Therefore, you may also want to check with other local animal control agencies in the area to search for your lost pet. Have you found a lost pet?If you have found a lost animal and are trying to find the owner on your own, you are welcome to use the resources at our shelter. We encourage you to come in and view the lost pet reports that people fill out when they visit our shelter and are looking for their lost pets. You may bring your found animal to the shelter so that we can scan the animal for a possible microchip. This is no charge for this service We highly recommend that you fill out a Found Animal Report so that people who are searching for their lost pets at our shelter will be able to reference the description of the animal that you have found and are temporarily holding onto. You may do this in person at the shelter or by downloading the following form: With this form, you may drop it off at the shelter, mail it to us, fax it to (916) 808-5386, or email it to 311@cityofsacramento.org. We will place the report in our Found Animal Reports binder that is located on the desk in the lobby and is accessible to the public. The Sacramento Bee offers to place free advertisements for found animals. To place an ad, call (916) 321-1234 or toll-free (800) 876-8700. |
