Shelter and Field Service Fees

If you reside within the city limits of Sacramento and find a stray animal, there is no fee if you bring the animal to the shelter or request for field service. However, the fees do apply if an owner surrenders his/her animal at the shelter or requests for field service.

If you reside outside the city limits of Sacramento (i.e. a non-city resident), then you must surrender the animal with the appropriate animal shelter covering your jurisdiction.

• Sacramento County residents need to contact Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation at 916-368-7387.
• Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova residents need to contact the Sacramento SPCA at 916-383-7387.
• Yolo County residents need to contact West Sacramento at 916-375-6492 or Woodland at 530-668-5287

If you request an animal control officer to be dispatched to your residence, the fees will include an additional field service fee of $25. For example, if an owner requests to have an animal control officer ($25) come and pick up his/her dog or cat ($25), then the total fee will be $50. As a reminder, the shelter's animal control officers service only within the city limits of Sacramento.

NOTE: Photo ID and proof of residency required when surrendering an animal.

Acceptable Forms of Payment

• For shelter services: Cash, Check, Money Order, Visa, and Mastercard. In cases where an owner reclaims his/her pet, checks are NOT accepted.
• For field services: Cash, Check, and Money Order
