Volunteer & Educational Programs

Important Notice

There is NO volunteer orientation class in December. The next volunteer orientation will be on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Thank you.

Teen Program

Animal Care now offers these volunteer programs for teens:

Shelter Teams - 20 hour commitment
Want to work with the animals at the Animal Care Shelter? Teens will need a parent, guardian or adult age 18 or older to attend training and volunteer with them each time. Please read the full details for the Shelter Teams program.
Shelter Partners - 15 hour commitment
Participants do not need to work with an adult, nor take training classes, as handling animals is not included. Examples of work include helping with laundry, unfolding newspapers, and other activities needed for the shelter to run successfully. This program is limited to 10 active students. Please read the full details for the Shelter Partners program.
Shelter Friends - less than 15 hours
Help the shelter through home and school-based projects that can go towards community service credit. Please read the full details for the Shelter Friends program.
Foster Program

Our Foster Program is actively seeking new Foster Care Providers who can care for shelter animals in their homes until they are ready for adoption. Please call our Foster Care Coordinator, at 916-808-8166 to sign up!

Volunteer Orientations

Volunteer orientations are held at the City Animal Shelter on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
