Artist in Residence at Camp Sacramento

Mini Camps 1 - 4 (June 21-July 4) will be offering watercolor/journaling classes. These classes will be offered during the family camp primarily to teens and adults who want to learn or improve their artistic abilities. The actual schedule will be publicized in our final packets for campers who are registered for those sessions. The additional cost for this exciting program is a nominal $20 for the mini session and includes high quality brushes, paint and paper. If you are already registered for mini 1 - 4, you may sign up for the classes at check-in. If you know someone who would be interested, but is not signed up, let them know soon and have them call our reservations office at 916-808-6098.

David Simcox, a self-taught artist, uses pigmented inks, watercolor washes and pen-and-ink techniques to create his Arts and Crafts influenced Prairie Style designs.  He holds a Ph.D. in Resources Management and Sustainability issues, so it is only natural that his themes involve agriculture, nature and natural processes.  Along with his wife, Anna, he owns an art gallery and framing business in Chico.  Most of his work strives to connect people with the processes of nature and the ornamental styles that are so much a part of the heritage of the Arts and Crafts movement.  www.davidsimcox.com/

Sample of Carol Preble's artworkCarol Preble-Miles Bio, Artist in Residence
Carol is a native Northern Californian -- born and raised in Corning and moved to Chico as a young adult.  She wanted to be an artist when she grew up.  Color crayons, sharp new pencils and stacks of paper for drawing were amongst her favorite things. "A special joy is a day spent painting in the outdoors - to be on the spot and painting what I see, interpreting the scene as best as I can so that you can begin to see through my eyes, and share with me the feeling, color and texture of a place".
